January Retrospective

The Silver Linings of Seasonal Businesses

*Disclaimer: We have less data on our monthly numbers than usual because we switched our software halfway through the month and it became near impossible to transfer all of our analytics.

Calculating Success

Let's address the elephant in the room; we "only" made $54,000 in January 2026. At a glance that's almost a 50% decrease from December 2026, which most people might see as cause for concern but we don't see it that way. Instead we choose to see it as a 540% increase from the $1,000 in revenue we did last January. Perspective can always help you keep a level head when running a business.

Of course, if we're being realistic, part of us is a little disheartened by January's revenue but in complete honesty the slowness of the slow season FINALLY allowed us to do a lot of things we've been saying we need to do for months, including:

  • Getting a new software

  • Wrapping a truck

  • Finalizing our Privacy Policy

  • Finalizing our Terms & Conditions

  • Switching our insurance

  • Interviewing new GoodGuys

  • Filming professional content

  • Hiring an ad agency

  • Writing our employee growth structure

  • Working on our sales process

  • Probably some other stuff I'm forgetting

The Calm Before the Storm

We had less moves in January 2026 than we have had since April 2025 but it was a blessing in disguise. We knew going into January that it would be slow, whether we like it or not moving is seasonal work, so we had two main priorities for the month.

  1. Make sure all employees got paid

  2. Work on the processes necessary to scale

We are happy to report that all of our employees got full time hours for the month, that's always the most important thing to us. Secondly we were finally able to do a lot of the actions necessary for the growth we are anticipating this year.

Weathering the Storm

I'm sitting here writing this in late February and it's 70 degrees, our phones won't stop ringing, and we're booked through mid March. We're better prepared now for radical growth this year than ever before. And we're actively hiring and truck shopping every day. Looking back my two main takeaways from January are;

If you are ever in a slow season in life, prepare for the next season.

If we didn't take the time to do the boring administrative work in January we would be in full on panic mode right now. But like professional athletes doing offseason workouts we made sure that we took the necessary steps to prepare for the season. Lastly;

Even if you're worried you have to keep moving.

Even on my most optimistic days in January I had a little voice in the back of my head asking me if we were failing. After all of our fast growth last year I had forgotten that unless you work in the Ai space in 2026 your companies revenue graph isn't going to go up and to the right forever. We are a young company and we survived our first offseason and I am proud of that.

Heading into busy season I couldn't imagine better leadership than Trent and Andrew. As the captains their job is to make sure that even when the boat rocks, it doesn't sink.

My job is just to make sure that everybody can see the boat.
