October Review: Is It Really Spooky Season?

October isn’t supposed to be busy for moving companies—but we broke records. Here’s how our Atlanta movers saw more leads, bigger jobs, and steady growth all month.

October. Spooky season. Also the first month after the busy season. We didn’t know what to expect. Frankly, we were scared. It seems like every month we were concerned with the next month, and every month we just kept figuring it out. But that was during the busy season. Operating a moving company when everyone wants to move is difficult for a lot of reasons, but leads and sales weren't necessarily a challenge.

But October was no longer considered a ‘busy’ month. The real grind was about to start, until we could get to another busy season next May.

Those were our basic thoughts entering October, or at least a few weeks before October. But then something surprising happened. People kept moving. Customers still needed moving services. Leads kept coming in. The calendar kept filling up. And by the first week of October, we were all but fully booked for the month. And not only that. We felt like we were setting a record for the largest move completed to date, every week of October. A new week, another massive move. We were completely blown away. Most everyone we had talked to told us that the non-busy season can get really sparse. Leads can be few and far between. So believe us when we tell you that setting basically every possible monthly record in October was incredibly unexpected.

October was not only a record month, it also felt like the most consistent month we’ve had, with the least amount of variance day to day regarding staffing needs. It felt like we had a consistent 5-7 guys out almost every day on jobs. In fact, looking back at our jobs for the month, we had 3 total days (excluding Sundays, of course) for the entire month where we had less than 4 Good Guys out on jobs.  It also seemed like we were just knocking out larger local moves constantly. This feels like a great sign that we are really finding our target market, and are doing a great job at serving them well. We did a total of 55 jobs in October, which was only 1 more than in September, and yet our average job brought in a few hundred dollars more in October, again going to show that as we grow, it seems like we are finding our ideal customer.

Our newly implemented morning meetings and a few new morning policies have also seemed to really help with overall morale and organization, and our operations are running as smoothly as they ever have. We are excited to continue to grow and learn and constantly improve all the way around so that we can keep serving everyone around us well.

While October is Spooky Season, it turns out it wasn’t scary at all. On to the next!
